The peaches, pears and tomatoes are gone. The trusses, the brick and the five-metre ceilings stayed — and so did the habit of putting the best of the season in jars.

The house
For fifty years this building took in the orchards of the Niagara peninsula every August and sent them out in tins. It closed in the sixties, stood empty for longer than it worked, and reopened in 2021 as a hotel that kept almost everything worth keeping.
You sleep under the same Douglas-fir trusses that carried the conveyor belts, behind brick walls still stencilled with lot numbers. The retort room, where sealed cans were cooked under pressure, is now our restaurant. The water tower holds a penthouse. And the loading yard, where growers queued with their carts, is where the bicycles live.

Why guests choose us
Most hotels in town are Victorian inns or modern resorts. We are neither, and that is rather the point.
Original brick, fir trusses and cast-iron columns in every loft. Nothing was faked to look old, and the scars were left where they tell a story.
Ceilings between 4.6 and 5.2 metres, windows the size of barn doors, and the smallest loft still larger than most suites along the river.
Retort cooks from the season and puts it up in jars, as the building always did. Breakfast comes with last August’s peaches.
Twenty bicycles, free to guests, and a flat, quiet road to the first tasting room. We will book the tables and bring the bottles back.
Where you are
We sit on a quiet lane between the historic high street and the river path. The car can stay in the yard for most of the weekend.
5–20 min by bike
More than thirty estates along the Niagara Parkway and Niagara Stone Road, most of them pouring their own Riesling, Cabernet Franc and icewine.

Shops, bakeries and the clock tower on the Old Town’s main street.

Three theatres and a season that runs from spring well into autumn.
At the door
The paved Niagara River Recreation Trail heads south along the water.

Upstream along the Parkway; go early and you will have the rail to yourself.
We came for two plays at the Shaw and spent most of the weekend on the hotel’s bicycles instead. Waking up under those beams, with the light coming through a window the size of a garage door, was worth the trip on its own.

Lofts are ready from 16:00 and we ask for them back by 11:00. Bags can wait with us on either side, and if the loft is free we will happily let you in early or stay late at no charge — just ask the day before.
There are 22 spaces in the old loading yard at CAD 25 a night, four of them with Level 2 chargers. On summer weekends the yard fills, so tell us your arrival time and we will hold a space.
Yes, in the four ground-floor Packing Room Lofts, which open straight onto the lawn. The fee is CAD 60 per stay and covers a bed, bowls and a list of the wineries that welcome dogs on their patios.
The Mezzanine Lofts have an open timber stair, which we do not recommend with toddlers. Families with young children do better in the Orchard Corner Loft or the Boiler House Suite, both on one level. Cots are free.
Four ground-floor lofts are step-free, with roll-in showers and a lift to the restaurant level. Mezzanine sleeping platforms are reached by stairs only. Full details are in our review and on the contact page.
Two nights on Friday and Saturday from May to October, and during the Icewine weekends in January. Otherwise a single night is fine.
